Overview

The latest iteration of the Raspberry Pi single-board computer, the Raspberry Pi 5, features a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz. This new model delivers a 2–3 times increase in CPU performance compared to the Raspberry Pi 4. It also offers a significant boost in graphics performance with an 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU, supports dual 4Kp60 display outputs over HDMI, and includes advanced camera support through a redesigned Raspberry Pi Image Signal Processor. These enhancements provide a seamless desktop experience for consumers and unlock new possibilities for industrial applications.

For the first time, this full-size Raspberry Pi computer incorporates silicon designed and built in-house by Raspberry Pi. The RP1 "Southbridge" chip is responsible for most of the I/O capabilities of the Raspberry Pi 5, marking a significant improvement in peripheral performance and functionality. The aggregate USB bandwidth has more than doubled, leading to faster transfer speeds for external UAS drives and other high-speed peripherals. The dedicated two-lane 1Gbps MIPI camera and display interfaces from previous models have been upgraded to a pair of four-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers. This upgrade triples the total bandwidth and supports any combination of up to two cameras or displays. Moreover, peak SD card performance has doubled due to support for the SDR104 high-speed mode. Additionally, for the first time, the platform includes a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface, enhancing support for high-bandwidth peripherals.
