ATA6844
The ATA6844 is a high-performance, integrated motor driver IC designed by Microchip Technology for automotive and industrial applications. It features four N-channel MOSFET half-bridge drivers capable of delivering up to 3.5 A continuous current per channel, with peak currents reaching 7 A. The device supports both PWM and analog control modes, enabling precise speed and torque regulation for DC motors. Its built-in protection mechanisms include over-current, over-temperature, under-voltage lockout, and short-circuit detection, ensuring robust operation in harsh environments.
This IC operates from a supply voltage range of 4.5 V to 28 V, making it suitable for use in 12 V and 24 V automotive systems. It includes an internal charge pump that eliminates the need for external high-side gate drive components, simplifying circuit design and reducing board space. The ATA6844 also integrates diagnostics such as fault logging, open-load detection, and active current sensing, which enhance system reliability and support advanced diagnostic capabilities in modern vehicle ECUs.
Designed for safety-critical applications, the ATA6844 complies with ISO 26262 functional safety standards and supports ASIL-B level implementation. It features a dual supply configuration—VDD for logic and VCC for power—with separate supply pins to isolate noise-sensitive circuits. The device offers flexible communication options via SPI interface, allowing for configuration, monitoring, and real-time control of motor parameters through a microcontroller.
Common applications include electric power steering (EPS), electric brake booster systems, HVAC blowers, and other motor-driven subsystems in passenger vehicles and commercial equipment. Its compact QFN package (48-pin) and low electromagnetic emissions make it ideal for space-constrained and EMI-sensitive designs. Additionally, the chip supports bidirectional motor control and includes programmable dead time adjustment to optimize switching efficiency and reduce losses.
