MCP8063
The MCP8063 is a low-power, high-accuracy voltage supervisor IC designed for system monitoring and reset management in embedded applications. It features a precise internal bandgap reference and a programmable threshold detection circuit that monitors supply voltages with typical accuracy of ±1.5%. The device supports multiple supply voltage options, including 2.5V, 3.0V, 3.3V, and 5.0V, making it suitable for a wide range of power domains in portable and industrial systems.
One of the key features of the MCP8063 is its ultra-low quiescent current, typically less than 1 µA, which ensures minimal power consumption during operation—ideal for battery-powered or energy-sensitive designs. It includes an active-low reset output that remains asserted until the supply voltage reaches a stable level above the threshold, ensuring reliable system initialization. The reset timeout period is internally fixed at approximately 140 ms, eliminating the need for external timing components and simplifying circuit design.
This supervisor also incorporates a manual reset input (MR), allowing users to trigger a system reset via an external push-button or control signal. Additionally, it provides a watchdog timer functionality, where the MR pin must be toggled within a specified window to prevent a forced reset, enhancing system reliability in fault-prone environments. The MCP8063 operates over a wide supply voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V, offering flexibility across various power rails commonly found in microcontroller-based systems.
Designed for robust performance, the MCP8063 is available in space-saving SOT-23-5 and SC-70 packages, making it ideal for compact PCB layouts. Its operation is guaranteed across industrial temperature ranges (-40°C to +85°C), ensuring stability in harsh environments such as automotive, industrial automation, and medical devices. The device is fully compliant with RoHS standards and is suitable for applications requiring long-term reliability and minimal maintenance.
Common applications include microcontroller reset circuits, power-on sequencing, battery backup monitoring, and system health checks in IoT devices, consumer electronics, and smart sensors. By integrating essential supervisory functions into a single, low-cost component, the MCP8063 reduces board complexity while improving system robustness and reducing development time.
