BlueNRG-1
BlueNRG-1 is a low-power, highly integrated System-on-Chip (SoC) designed by STMicroelectronics for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) applications. It features an ARM Cortex-M0 32-bit RISC processor operating at up to 32 MHz, providing efficient processing capabilities while maintaining minimal power consumption. The device includes 512 KB of Flash memory and 96 KB of SRAM, enabling robust storage and runtime performance for complex BLE protocols and application logic.
The SoC integrates a full-featured BLE 4.2 radio with support for all standard BLE profiles and services, ensuring compatibility with the latest wireless standards. Its ultra-low power design allows operation in active mode at just 17.5 mA and standby modes below 1 µA, making it ideal for battery-powered devices such as wearables, IoT sensors, and remote controls. Additionally, BlueNRG-1 offers extensive peripheral support including UART, SPI, I2C, ADC, and multiple GPIOs, facilitating seamless connectivity with external sensors and actuators.
Designed for ease of development, BlueNRG-1 supports ST’s comprehensive software ecosystem, including the STM32CubeMX configurator, BLE stack (BlueNRG-Stack), and SDK tools that accelerate time-to-market. The chip also includes hardware security features such as AES-128 encryption and secure boot, enhancing data integrity and device authentication in sensitive applications like healthcare monitoring or industrial automation.
Key application areas include smart home devices, medical sensors, asset tracking, beacons, and industrial IoT nodes. Its compact 4x4 mm WLCSP package enables space-constrained designs, while the high integration reduces component count and simplifies PCB layout.
