M24512-A125
The M24512-A125 is a 512 Kbit serial electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It operates with a voltage range of 1.7 V to 5.5 V, making it compatible with a wide variety of low-power and high-performance systems. The device features a 2-wire serial interface compliant with the I²C protocol, enabling simple integration into microcontroller-based designs without requiring complex hardware. With a maximum clock frequency of 400 kHz, it ensures reliable and efficient data transfer in embedded applications.
This EEPROM offers 64 pages of 8 bytes each, totaling 512 Kbits of non-volatile storage capacity. Its write cycle endurance is rated at up to 1 million cycles, ensuring long-term reliability under frequent write operations. Data retention is guaranteed for up to 200 years at 25°C, providing robustness for long-term archival needs. The memory includes built-in write protection mechanisms, such as hardware and software lock features, which help prevent accidental overwrites or unauthorized access to stored data.
The M24512-A125 is designed for low-power operation, consuming only 3.5 mA during active reads or writes and as low as 1 μA in standby mode. This makes it ideal for battery-powered devices where power efficiency is critical. Additionally, it supports both byte-write and page-write modes, allowing flexibility in how data is stored—whether updating a single byte or writing an entire page at once.
Common applications include industrial control systems, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, and smart metering devices. It is frequently used in equipment that requires persistent storage of configuration parameters, calibration data, or user settings. For example, in automotive systems, it can store sensor calibration values or diagnostic information; in consumer products, it may retain user preferences or firmware update logs.
The device is available in a compact 8-pin SO8 package, offering a space-efficient solution for densely populated PCBs. It is fully compliant with RoHS standards and is suitable for use in environmentally conscious designs. STMicroelectronics ensures high-quality manufacturing and rigorous testing, contributing to the part’s reliability across diverse operating conditions—from industrial temperatures (-40°C to +85°C) to consumer-grade environments.
