ADS1120-Q1

The ADS1120-Q1 is a precision, low-power, 16-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for high-accuracy measurement applications. It features a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with gains ranging from 1 to 128, enabling flexible signal conditioning for small differential input signals. The device supports up to four external analog inputs, allowing for multiplexed measurements across multiple channels without requiring additional hardware. Its internal clock and fully integrated digital filter eliminate the need for external timing components, simplifying system design. This ADC offers excellent performance with a maximum effective number of bits (ENOB) of 15.7 at a conversion rate of 32 samples per second (SPS), making it suitable for precision sensing in industrial, automotive, and medical environments. It operates on a single supply voltage between 2.7 V and 5.5 V, drawing only 300 µA in active mode and less than 1 µA in power-down mode, which makes it ideal for battery-powered or energy-efficient systems. The device includes a built-in temperature sensor for self-calibration and diagnostic functions, enhancing reliability in harsh conditions. Communication is handled via a synchronous serial interface (SPI-compatible), supporting both standard and fast modes up to 10 MHz, ensuring efficient data transfer. The ADS1120-Q1 also incorporates advanced features such as a watchdog timer, programmable data rate, and interrupt output, which allow for responsive and robust system control. Its integrated self-test functionality supports diagnostics during operation, reducing field failures and maintenance costs. Designed to meet AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification standards, the ADS1120-Q1 is specifically tailored for automotive applications, including battery monitoring, fuel cell systems, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. It can also be used in industrial automation for pressure, temperature, and strain gauge measurements, as well as in portable medical devices where accuracy and low power are critical. The device’s robust design ensures reliable performance under electromagnetic interference (EMI) and wide temperature ranges—from -40°C to +125°C—making it well-suited for demanding environments.
