LM5164-Q1
The LM5164-Q1 is a high-efficiency, wide-input-voltage synchronous buck converter designed for automotive and industrial applications. It supports an input voltage range from 4.5 V to 60 V, making it suitable for demanding environments such as automotive battery systems, industrial power supplies, and solar energy converters. The device features integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs with low RDS(on) to minimize conduction losses and improve thermal performance.
This converter operates at a fixed frequency of up to 1 MHz, allowing for the use of small external components while maintaining high efficiency across various load conditions. Its current-mode control architecture provides fast transient response, excellent loop stability, and simplified compensation. The LM5164-Q1 also includes built-in protection features such as over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe operation under fault conditions.
Designed for robustness in harsh environments, the LM5164-Q1 meets AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualification standards, making it ideal for automotive-grade applications requiring long-term reliability. It offers flexible configuration options through an I2C-compatible interface for digital monitoring and adjustment of output voltage, switching frequency, and other operational parameters, enabling system-level optimization and diagnostics.
The device supports both forced PWM and adaptive pulse-width modulation (PWM) modes, allowing optimal efficiency across light and heavy loads. In light-load conditions, it automatically transitions to burst mode operation to reduce quiescent current, enhancing efficiency in standby or low-power states. This feature is particularly beneficial in battery-powered systems where minimizing power loss is critical.
The LM5164-Q1 integrates advanced gate drivers that support high-side and low-side MOSFETs with optimized dead time control to reduce switching losses and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Its compact 28-pin PowerPAD™ package ensures efficient thermal dissipation, enabling high power density in space-constrained designs. Additionally, the converter includes soft-start functionality to limit inrush current during startup, preventing stress on the power supply and connected components.
Overall, the LM5164-Q1 delivers a highly integrated, reliable, and efficient solution for step-down voltage regulation in automotive, industrial, and renewable energy systems where performance, safety, and compact design are essential.
