PGA460-Q1
The PGA460-Q1 is a highly integrated analog front-end (AFE) designed for precision current sensing in automotive applications. It features a 24-bit sigma-delta ADC with an input range of ±50 mV, enabling accurate measurement of small voltage drops across shunt resistors. The device supports both single- and dual-shunt configurations, allowing flexible design options for motor control, battery management, and power conversion systems.
This AFE includes built-in diagnostics such as open-load detection, short-circuit protection, and internal reference monitoring, ensuring reliable operation under harsh conditions typical in automotive environments. Its low-power consumption mode reduces quiescent current to less than 10 µA, making it ideal for always-on systems where energy efficiency is critical. Additionally, the PGA460-Q1 offers a wide supply voltage range from 3.0 V to 5.5 V, compatible with standard automotive power rails.
The chip integrates a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with selectable gains of 1, 2, 4, or 8, which allows optimization of signal conditioning based on the application’s sensitivity requirements. It also provides a high-resolution digital output via a synchronous serial interface (SPI), supporting data rates up to 1 Mbps for fast communication with microcontrollers or processors. The device includes temperature compensation logic to minimize drift over the operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C, maintaining accuracy in extreme thermal conditions.
Designed for compliance with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standards, the PGA460-Q1 meets stringent automotive reliability requirements, including EMI/EMC robustness and long-term stability. It is commonly used in electric vehicle (EV) traction inverters, onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, and battery monitoring systems where precise current measurement is essential for safety, efficiency, and system performance.
The internal self-calibration feature simplifies factory calibration and ensures consistent performance across production units, reducing time-to-market and system integration complexity. With its compact 32-pin QFN package and excellent noise immunity, the PGA460-Q1 delivers high signal integrity while minimizing board space and external component count.
