TMP275

The TMP275 is a high-accuracy digital temperature sensor manufactured by Texas Instruments, designed for precise thermal monitoring in a wide range of applications. It features a resolution of up to 16 bits, enabling temperature measurements with an accuracy of ±0.5°C over the operating range of –40°C to +125°C. The device supports both Celsius and Fahrenheit output modes, offering flexibility in system design. Its I²C-compatible serial interface allows for easy integration into embedded systems, reducing the need for additional hardware components. One of the key advantages of the TMP275 is its low power consumption—typically 10 µA in active mode and as low as 0.1 µA in shutdown mode—making it ideal for battery-powered or energy-sensitive applications. The sensor includes programmable alert thresholds, allowing users to configure high and low temperature limits that trigger an interrupt signal when exceeded. This feature enables proactive thermal management without continuous polling from the host microcontroller, improving system efficiency. The TMP275 operates over a supply voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V, ensuring compatibility with a broad spectrum of digital logic families. It also offers a configurable conversion rate (from 1 Hz to 16 Hz), which balances measurement speed against power usage depending on application requirements. Additionally, the device supports multi-drop bus configurations, allowing multiple sensors to share the same I²C bus, simplifying system scalability in complex designs. Common applications include industrial control systems, consumer electronics, medical devices, and automotive environments where accurate and reliable temperature sensing is critical. For example, in industrial settings, the TMP275 can monitor motor temperatures or process equipment to prevent overheating. In consumer products like smartphones or laptops, it helps manage thermal throttling to maintain performance while avoiding damage. Medical devices benefit from its precision and stability for patient safety and diagnostic accuracy. Texas Instruments ensures robust reliability through advanced calibration techniques and built-in self-test functionality, minimizing drift over time and temperature. The sensor’s small package size (such as the 8-pin SOIC) makes it suitable for space-constrained PCB layouts. With its combination of high accuracy, low power, and flexible configuration options, the TMP275 stands out as a versatile solution for modern temperature-sensing needs across diverse industries.
